Reblog: African Diaspora Travel writing

I recently came across this really interesting discussion about travel writing from last years Africa writes: The Royal African Society’s annual literature and book festival. The discussion reminded me about  my Dad and Great Uncle’s individual journeys to the UK. My Dad left Nigeria on an adventure travelling and working through west Africa and then France before arriving in the UK. My great-uncle claims he arrived as a stowaway on a ship in the 60’s. I am not so sure about this story and might class it in the same category as the visiting relative in my childhood who claimed his tribal marks were caused by a lion, there are some great African storytellers out there.
